LOCSS Project Shared With Environmental Educators

A LOCSS update that Sarah Yelton shared with environmental educators at NAAEE 2019

The 2019 annual conference took place from October 16-19 in Lexington, Kentucky, and LOCSS was there!

LOCSS team member Sarah Yelton gave a talk to attendees at the conference titled Engaging Citizen Scientists to Understand Changes in Lake Water Storage. Sarah spoke with attendees from across the U.S. about engaging citizen scientists through the LOCSS project, our work to determine if citizen scientists can provide accurate measurements (they can), and some takeaways from our recent survey of citizen scientists (more on this in a future post). Attendees were interested in learning how we recruit and retain citizen scientists and how data from the LOCSS project was used both by researchers and by the many community groups and local and state agencies engaged in the project.

This year’s NAAEE Annual Conference hosted more than 1200 attendees from around the world, and included over 400 sessions.
