Welcome Angélica Gómez

We are very pleased to welcome Angélica Gómez to the LOCSS team. She is joining as a postdoctoral researcher in the University of North Carolina’s Global Hydrology Lab, led by LOCSS project lead Tamlin Pavelsky.
Angélica earned undergraduate degrees in Sanitary Engineering at the Universidad de Antioquia in Colombia as well as in Computer Science Engineering at Institución Universitaria de Envigado. She then earned a Master of Science degree in Engineering at the Universidad de Antioquia. She recently earned her Ph.D. at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where her dissertation focused on how changes in land cover and land use in Northern Colombia impacted hydrology.
Angélica’s has previous experience in using satellite data to understand land cover changes, and is also no stranger to citizen science. As part of her Master’s project, she participated in the implementation of a citizen science project to understand the depth to groundwater variation in a remote region of Colombia known as Bajo Cauca. In her current role, she will help LOCSS by using lake height data from citizen scientists to validate data from satellites that are measuring our lakes from space.
